Save the fancy decorations for those stuffier awards shows — the GRAMMYs® are the time to get down with a funkier style. Metallics add a cool but still classy rock-and-roll vibe, or you can really turn it up with animal prints and a red-and-black color scheme. The finishing touch? A disco ball hanging from your ceiling, bowls of guitar picks people can throw when their favorites win, and mini lighters so you can raise ’em high during the ballads.

If you and your friends will be watching the show from the comfort of your floor, suggest on your invitation that they come in comfortable clothes and maybe bring their own cushions.

Invite people to arrive at least an hour before the awards and get everybody riled up by cranking nominated songs and breaking out Guitar Hero or Rock Band. If you don’t have these games, host an air guitar contest or test guests’ smarts with a rock trivia contest. CDs from GRAMMY®-nominated artists make great prizes.

During the show, you want to hear a lot of “mmm” without a lot of “shhhhhh!” Choose non-crunchy foods so nobody misses the lyrics of their favorite songs. Some ideas: Instead of tortilla chips and salsa, serve cheese enchiladas with salsa and guacamole. Skip potato chips in favor of retro-cool potato skins served with a creamy onion dip or loaded high with cheddar cheese, sour cream and bacon. Dessert? Make it spiked. Whiskey sauce, stout cake, rum balls, whatever your poison.

Stay in the spirit of this cool, casual, creative night by coming up with your own funky cocktail. Make that a rocktail! All you need are a squeeze of lime, a splash of soda or a shot of brightly colored grenadine or blue curacao to turn a traditional cocktail on its head. Then give it a funky name, and keep it pouring.

To make your own rockarita, just mix up your favorite margarita recipe, then add a splash (and then another splash…) of luscious, purplelicious Chambord. Top it off with a lollipop drink stirrer, and you have a memorable, rockin’ drink for your party.
